P Bass Neck Washers

Obligatory warning: I am a software programmer, not a guitar repair man. Over tightening a truss rod can break the rod and render the neck useless. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The relief on your P bass is just a bit too high. So you remove the neck and try to adjust the truss rod nut. Hmmm, tight.

This happened to me on both my MIJ '62 Reissue P basses. The solution is to add another washer. It might also be a good idea to try backing off on the nut first and make sure it is just not seized.

I went to Canadian Tire and got the #8 SS metal washers. The #8 is just the right diameter, but the hole is too small. I drilled them out to 13/64th of an inch. You might want to go 1/64th bigger (7/32th of an inch) since the 13/64th was pretty tight.
