Fender Limited Edition Standard Precision Bass (MIM)

I bought this bass used off a TalkBass member in February 2005. The original owner bought it in October 2004 from Guitar Center. "It is a special run made for Guitar Center. Only Natural finish MIM Precision I've ever seen." The serial number, MZ3xxxxx, means it was built in 2003/2004. Only 250 where made.

This is to be my "rock" bass. I disconnected the tone control, since I have more control at the amp anyway! I almost removed the volume control, but I use it to turn the bass off between sets.

Upgrades/mods

Original owner:

• Seymour Duncan Basslines SPB-3 Quarter-Pound for P pickups.
• Black pearl pickguard.

Mine (in roughly chronological order):

• D'Addario Chromes flatwound regular strings.
• Black pickguard.
• Thumbrest.
• Rewired I:
  • Quality volume pot.
  • Disconnected tone pot and cap.
• Rewired II:
  • Added a thin aluminum sheet under pots and output jack as a ground plane.
  • No wires to the backs of the pots!
  • Removed unnecessary wiring.
• Filed down fret ends.
• New GraphTech Trem-nut.
  On the original nut the slots where shifted towards the G string.

2006

• Shielded.
• Removed aluminum sheet.

2010

• Hipshot de-tuner.
• Tone control back in with 0.1uF cap.
• Somewhere along the way I removed the thumbrest.

Feb 2010: Well, I finally got a Hipshot Bass Xtender. I bought one before Christmas, but Canada Post lost it :( So I bought another. This means all my planned mods are done, and it only took five years!
